Still looking for the steps and best methods to put a harness on your bird correctly? Here is the solution for you to apply. As mentioned in the previous post, first and foremost ensure that a harness is suitable for your bird. Sometimes a small dog chain collar may be suitable for your bird if your pet bird can tolerate it. Make sure that your bird is hand tame and accepts having his wings and head touched before the process.

Step 1: Start to bring the part used to create the loop around the neck closer to where it connects.

Step 2: If the harness material is light, put the cross area (that the lead is connected to) on his chest.

Step 3: Since the neck loop is already created, it can simply be put over her head.

Step 4: You can work with the other connections once the harness is sitting on the bird.

Step 5: Next, get the above connected under the wings. Lift up each wing and set them underneath the wings while making sure they are not twisted.

Step 6: If you do this correctly and thoroughly, you will see the straps that are under the wings are connected.

Step 7: Finally, when you remove the harness, you will have to unclip everything. Before it’s put away, clip the neck loop back together. Hence, next time when you need to use it, you just slip the neck loop on and only have to connect the clips around the wings. Done!

For this post we are glad to share with you all the tips on how to put a harness or a collar on your horse or pony. Follow all the steps below thoroughly and ask other people to assist you.

Firstly, make sure you have this : Halter Harness

Step 1: Put the saddle on the pony’s back at the base of the mane, and buckle the girth beneath the animal. It should be loose enough to not cause pain but tight enough not to slip.

Step 2: Place the crouper, or the split leather loop, around the pony’s tail, taking care not to catch any hair in it. If the crouper has buckles, secure them.

Step 3: With the widest side facing upward, place the collar over the pony’s head. Make sure the collar isn’t placed too low or it will make it harder to control the pony.

Step 4: Straighten the reins and fold them over where the two pieces of leather meet. Pull them under the back strap to hold them securely until you need them.

Step 5: Put the bridle on by starting with the bit gently placed in the pony’s mouth. Slowly bring the bridle over the pony’s head and buckle it into place.

Step 6: Fasten the breeching along the back and hind legs. Gently pull the tail through. Adjust it so it’s not riding too low on the haunches or it could injure the pony’s hind legs.

Step 7: Check to make sure all parts of the harness are fitting correctly.

To put a collar on a kitten might seem easier compared to an adult cat especially if they are not used to it. So, the article written here is to help you on how best to handle a cat during putting a collar on them.

First thing needing to consider is trimming your cat’s nails a day before you attempt this. This is a protection to avoid you getting badly scratched.

Purchase a suitable collar for your cat depending on it’s size and it is advisable to choose the elastic type which can prevent your cat from suffocating or injury when they get caught on a tree branch.

Shake a bell lightly in front of your cat and let your cat play with it. While your cat sniffs, paws and jingles the bell, try to pop it on quickly.

While your cat is immersed in playing with the bell and tending to relax, quickly put a collar on her/him with a firm action. Likely your cat will wriggle for a time because it is something new and definitely not something wanted, but persevere. Let time do its work of allowing the cat to become used to the collar. After a few hours, the cat will come to a realization that the collar is there to stay.

If your cat continues to resist, try it again. It may work better to introduce the collar more gradually, with short wears to begin with and gradually increase this to longer and more permanent wearing. The downside of this approach is that the cat will hear the collar coming, will see it in your hands and will develop an instant dislike and dash off. Sometimes it is just easier to do it quickly and leave it there.

Ensure the collar isn’t too tight or too loose. A good test for this is where two of your fingers are able to slip under the collar.

To calm them, why not give cuddles or petting after that. Food and treats can make them forget about the collar too.

Try it now!

To choose Pet GPS collar or Pet Tracking collar? I will recommend pet tracking collar. Why?

The first reason because it was a budget item and must-have devices if you want to quickly locate your lost pet. This kind of tracking collar transmits a periodic beacon signal that is detected by a directional receiver. With the receiver you are able to tell in which direction your pet is located by how strong a signal you are detecting. In addition, as you get closer to the radio collar the beacon signal also gets stronger so you can determine both the relative direction and distance to your pet. In addition, with a pet tracking collar, you can find your missing pet in just a few minutes versus finding them in hours, days, or even weeks.

A built in short range radio tracking has two distinct advantages over GPS collars because they use free radio frequencies as you avoid the monthly cellular network fees used by the GPS system.

Furthermore, the electronics used with these short range devices can be made small and light enough for any domestic pet to wear. The tracking system on the collar only has to beacon a weak signal so the amount of electronics and power requirements are low. These types of tracking collars just need a small coin battery for power.

However, there is one disadvantage to using a radio tracking collar. Unlike the pet GPS locators you would not be able to pinpoint the longitude and latitude of your pet since the radio collar does not transmit any exact location coordinates — just distance and directional information that you can detect via the relative signal strength with the directional receiver.

The other perceived disadvantage of a short range radio pet locator collar is that it will not work over long distances as compared to the GPS collar. That is only partially true.

A short range radio collar would be able to work in much more remote areas and in places where the cellular phone networks cannot reach since the radio collar only needs to transmit as far as the receiver while the GPS pet collar needs to transmit to the nearest cellular tower.

So consider a radio pet collar as a pet tracking device if you cannot find a pet GPS collar that fits your needs and budget.

Want to save money by making a collar for your pet? It’s probably easier and cheaper than you think. If you are creative, you can create different collars for each week. It’s simple by following the steps here.

Before this, prepare all the things needed:-

Approximately 3 feet of 1 inch nylon webbing (less for smaller pets)

1-inch D-ring

1-inch tri-glide slider

1-inch side release nylon buckle

Sewing machine

Scissors

Follow the steps, and you will reach the target

Cut a length of 1 inch nylon webbing to approximately 3 feet long. This length may need to be cut down, depending on the type and size of your pet.

Weave one end of the webbing through the D-ring and the receptacle part of the buckle. Fold the end about 1 1/2 inches past the buckle, and sew securely.

Thread the remaining end of the webbing into the slider and the remaining end of the buckle. Fold the end under about 1 1/2 inches past the slider, and sew it securely.

Try it on your pet and adjust for fit. The collar should be snug, but not constrictive. You should be able to fit a couple of fingers between your pet’s neck and the collar.

Personalize the collar. Embroider a design or your pet’s name. It’s up to you.

Done!

Dog shock collars, also called bark collars, are an instrument used in the training of dogs. A dog shock collar is an electric collar that has the ability to shock a dog when his behaviour is inappropriate. Dog owners struggling with a dog that barks endlessly may find relief from the barking by using a shock collar. While they remain a controversial animal training method among professionals, many dog owners employ training shock collars when other methods fail.

If you are really interested with its features which is waterproof or water resistant, have a non-physical correction option such as a tone or vibration, and employ varying intensity levels, you can purchase a dog shock collar from your local pet store or online pet supply retailer.

Since it’s still new for some people, it may give pros and cons. For advantages, dog shock collars work effectively to help train dogs and rid them of negative behaviours while on the other hand, using a dog shock collar can make your dog fearful and even trigger severe aggression toward humans. The collars can also cause your dog to have stress or anxiety issues.

Therefore as the alternative for the first user, apply a reward-based training method, such as dog treats. You can also enroll your dog in a class or pay to have a professional train your dog.

The harnesses mentioned below are more practicable for a horse and not for a pony. However, this might give you an idea to choose the best harness collar for your pony or horse.

1. Harness Racing

Standardbreds and other breeds that race with a sulky (a light, two-wheeled cart) to compete in harness racing. They wear a breast collar – a strap that runs across the horse’s chest. Most race horses wear both an over check and a running martingale for control and safety. An over check runs from a hook on the saddle of the harness, up over the horse’s neck and then to the bit. It prevents the horse from lowering his head beyond a certain level. The over check can be adjusted for individual horses’ needs. A running martingale connects between the horse’s fronts legs, at the chest then divides into two pieces which end in rings. The reins slide through these rings. It limits how high the horse can raise his head, and also provides additional control should a runaway occur. Pacers (who standardbreds pace instead of trot) will often wear special Hobbles to Prevent them from breaking into another gait.

2. Show Harness

Light-breed horses such as Morgans, American Saddlebreds and Arabians show in a harness made of well-polished, refined leather. It is almost always black. A show has to harness breast collar and is not appropriate for heavier work. The bridle may consist of a variety of bits and usually an over check or running martingale. Proper care for a show harness includes cleaning it after every use and storing it in a bag where dust, rodents and dirt cannot damage it.

3. Plow Harness

Draft horses are often called upon to drag plows, logs and other heavy items. They wear a full necklace, which helps the horse use his shoulders to pull. It goes around the horse’s neck. A breast collar should not be used for horses that pull heavier loads because it can sometimes restrict the horse’s airway. The traces on a plow to attach to harness whippletree, which helps distribute force evenly. A whippletree is a bar that can pivot and swing, allowing the horse to pull a more balanced load.

4.Carriage Harness

This type of harness is often seen on horses that pull buggies or other types of vehicles. A full necklace breast collar may be used. It is a strong, but lightweight, harness sometimes used in combined driving events. These harnesses often have a breeching strap, which goes around the horse’s hindquarters. A breeching strap is basically the driver’s brakes. When the horse needs to back the carriage up, the breeching strap also comes into effect. Or, if the carriage suddenly lurches forward, the breeching strap catches on the horse’s rear end, allowing him to be able to take the force of the cart and slow it down. It prevents the cart from running into the back of the horse, which could have disastrous consequences. While caring for a carriage harness may not be as meticulous as caring for a show harness, it is always smart to clean your harness to check for wear and tear and keep the leather in good condition.

5.Cart Harness

Horses responsible for pulling wagons or larger carts (perhaps even a sleigh) are best to wear a harness with full collar. The traces are made of chain to help with strength. Breaching straps are also seen on the cart harness.

If another post is about types of rabbit harnesses, here is the steps on how to choose the right harness and leash for your rabbit. It is very significant especially when you want to take a walk with your rabbit.

Select a light body harness that contains a buckled band that goes around your rabbit’s neck and a buckled band that goes around your rabbit’s chest / torso. Select a light matching leash.

Make sure the neck and body bands are connected to each other by a band or strap that goes from neck to chest over your rabbit’s chest and by another that goes from neck to chest over your rabbit’s back. This type of harness provides a bit of additional support for your rabbit. The metal hook for the leash should be attached to the body strap.

Hold your rabbit firmly, but gently, on the floor and kneel beside him. Ask another family member to hold your rabbit this way, if you feel uncertain about doing this by yourself.

Speak gently and soothingly to your rabbit as you slowly ease the harness over his back and buckle the neck band.

Continue to soothe your rabbit as you ease the body band over his midsection and buckle it. Stop and try again the next day, if your rabbit strenuously resists, so you do not stress him too much.

Attach the leash to the leash hook located on the body band of the harness.

Gently pet and praise your rabbit, then let him go. He’ll probably dash about trying to remove the harness.

Clap your hands firmly and loudly say, ‘No-no-no-no-no’ if your rabbit tries to chew through the leash or harness straps. Many rabbits destroy one or two harnesses before they get used to them.

Pet and praise your rabbit when he stops chewing. If he refuses to stop chewing, pet him anyway or give him a treat to distract him from his mission of destruction.

Get your rabbit accustomed to the body harness and leash by putting it on him for a few minutes each day, until he no longer tries to chew through the straps of the harness.

Rabbits are creatures who love to hop around and enjoy their surroundings. Rarely do we see people get their rabbit going outside since they think that it’s hard to handle this creature. However, if you know the right technique, they will stay close to you. Always remember that you actually walk with the rabbit, not the rabbit walk with you !!!

Like dog, cat or other small pets’ leashes, the rabbit harnesses come in many different and varied designs. You should choose the right harnesses for the rabbit since they have soft and delicate bones. The best harness for you and your rabbit is the one that works best for you. Do not use a collar on a rabbit or other small pet, it will not be safe.

There are six styles to choose from for your bunny:-

1. Harness fit

A harness should fit snug to your rabbit. Tighten the harness on the rabbit so that it is snug fitting but your human finger can still fit between the rabbits and neck or waist. The harness may look tight on the rabbit because of the hair or wool of the rabbit.

2. Figure 8 Harness

This harness shape is like a figure 8 with one opening going around the rabbits neck and the other opening around the rabbits waist. It has a buckle that buckles over the back of the rabbit. Adjust the harness rightly to comfort the rabbit and to avoid the rabbit wriggling out.

3. Figure H Harness

This harness looks like an H laid out on a table. It has two buckles, one at the neck and one at the waist. This harness is easy to adjust for the comfort of the rabbit. This is a safe and comfortable harness if adjusted correctly on the rabbits body.

4. Rope Harness

The Rope Harness is a figure 8 Harness with a leash attached. It is all one piece and adjusts and buckles over the back of the rabbit. Once adjusted it will fit the rabbit (at the same weight) each time it is put on the rabbit. Again, with the figure 8 type harness make sure it is adjusted correctly or the rabbit can wriggle out of the harness and run off.

5. Vest or Coat Type Harness

This is a coat or vest that is made to fit the rabbit snug that has a ring on top for a leash attached. Most vest and or coat type harnesses close with velcro fasteners at the neck and the waist. Two layers of velcro is best. For maximum security, keep the velcro very clean. Some are made with buttons or snaps. Check buttons often and remember how a button can pop off a shirt. If snaps become loose discard this type of harness.

6. The Leash

Comes with short light leash with small clip. Usually for the beginning, this style is the best choice since your rabbit progresses in training and you become more accustomed to running with your rabbit. Elastic type of this leash makes it more flexible.
